The Little Mermaid

I was going through some of the photographs I had taken during one of my trip to Denmark. I came across the one of the famous Little Mermaid of Copenhagen. She is a fairy tale character, a creation of the famous author Hans C Andersen. She sits in a mesmerizing pose at the lake in Copenhagen, and one can say is the landmark or most noted of the city. I was fortunate enough to see her being re-installed in place, after a year long trip to China, where she was transported to.

The painting is a humble attempt to bring out some of that beauty on to canvas. I know there is a long way to go for me and lots to learn, but a first attempt at painting from a photograph, and of a historically important subject. Yet, I'm pretty sure, some of the health conscious would look at my painting and say "Oh! Did the mermaid go dieting?" :-(
