The monk

Its New Year's Eve and many of us are making New Year resolutions (of course it may last hardly a week). One has this saintly feeling with all the resolutions and stuff. That inspired me to paint this monk today. My best friend and critique, my better half felt that the monk was leaning in a bit too much. My explanation was that the resolutions induced a meditative trance and he is leaning on his staff as a result.
Enjoy the resolutions and saintly phase until you break the "resolutions" :)

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone! The moment we think of Christmas, we think of Christmas tree, cake, Santa Claus, snow, gifts and wine (in no particular order). Hmm wine. That sounded good. I thought I'll sip a glass of beautiful red wine with all of you.

A perfect piece for your dining room corner, beside the glass ware cabinets. A 10'' X 12'' oil on black canvas, needs no framing, and is ready to adorn your wall.

Sunset in the arids

So, I finally decided to try my hand at using brushes, after painting all these days with the palette knife. The scene is a sunset in and arid land, which has some throny trees. The paint wraps around the canvas, completely omitting the need to be framed. Perfect for a scenery like appearance in your room.

The forest river

This afternoon, I wanted some peaceful silence, interluded with chirping birds and gurgling water. And what better way to get that in this metropolitan city life, other than a painting to depict just that!
A soothing stream flowing a midst a forest, the sound of water and the chirping of the birds in the trees. Bliss!

Sunset in pastels

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm experimenting with a lot of different media and techniques. Here is a humble attempt at using oil pastels. Its done on high quality paper and is 11.5'' by 16.5'' in size. It is not framed. Please do send in your comments, as they would be very valuable for my progress.

Spiritual burst

I have been absent from here for a while, and the reason for that is, I was trying out some other techniques and learning new stuff. My latest has been with poster colors on drawing paper. Notice the textures created using the water based translucent paint.

This is not framed, keeping in mind a custom frame to match the room could be a choice. I can of course, frame it for you from my collection of frames, before I ship it to you. Get in touch to buy this one.

A philosophical abstract

Its been a while since I came here, and I'm adept at giving excuses now - work, family, time, health blah blah. Anyways.. I made this very abstract piece which probably looks a bit boring but there is a lot of thought, depth to it. I won't reveal my view, but leave it to you to think for yourself, come up with your own interpretations of how you can use this to reflect.

Suraj mukhi - Sunflower

Recently, we gal pals were talking about the stages of married life, classified according to duration, tolerance and "other" criteria. In Hindi language, the three stages have been named (by mortals who have thoroughly understood the nuances of marriage) as "Chandramukhi", "Surajmukhi" and "Jwalamukhi". Translated to English, they mean 'as beautiful as the moon', 'sunflower' and 'volcano'!! Ok, now don't ask me to explain :-). But anyway, I thought how could such a beautiful flower like the bright and yellow sunflower be even remotely connected to err.. the intermediate stage of wedded life? To prove my point, I painted some sunflowers. Here it is, oil on black canvas, 10 X 12, ready to be hung up in your bedroom, may be provoking you to be as nice as the sunflower?

The Little Mermaid

I was going through some of the photographs I had taken during one of my trip to Denmark. I came across the one of the famous Little Mermaid of Copenhagen. She is a fairy tale character, a creation of the famous author Hans C Andersen. She sits in a mesmerizing pose at the lake in Copenhagen, and one can say is the landmark or most noted of the city. I was fortunate enough to see her being re-installed in place, after a year long trip to China, where she was transported to.

The painting is a humble attempt to bring out some of that beauty on to canvas. I know there is a long way to go for me and lots to learn, but a first attempt at painting from a photograph, and of a historically important subject. Yet, I'm pretty sure, some of the health conscious would look at my painting and say "Oh! Did the mermaid go dieting?" :-(

Aspen Avenue

I remember the first time I came to Bangalore, and saw the streets of Indiranagar, I was mesmerized by the avenue of trees. Sadly, there are neither any trees in Bangalore now, nor do I get mesmerized by anything on the streets, what with just traffic traffic and more traffic. So all I can do is imagine myself in a tree lined avenue. You can do so too, with the avenue of Aspen trees below. Its a ready to frame 12 X 14 oil on canvas, with textured knife work. Enjoy!

Jacaranda tree

Seldom do we notice nature around us, in the hustle-bustle of life. But sometimes nature just forces us to take our eyes off that cellphone and look at her. A jacaranda tree in the campus has been grabbing my attention everyday, with its almost leafless branches full of lovely lavender flowers. The flowers give such a refreshing view in the midst of all the concrete and glass. Here it is on a 14' X 18' canvas, just as soon as I finished painting. The heavy texture of the oil comes with using palette knives. Now everytime you see a jacaranda in full bloom, think of me!

My way to beat the heat

Its started to get so hot around, almost to the point of being roasted, if I leave the comforts of home. I thought of all ways to beat the heat. Hmmm.. imagining myself on the Antarctic snow lands. So then what better way to express that chill, other than a snowy white wolf! I'm sure the texture of his fur will make you want to cuddle him. Again, combination of acrylic and oil on canvas on a 10 X 12, ready to be framed.

Why so serious

A friend of mine is a big fan of Batman. One of the movies of the Batman series - the Dark Knight, features a joker and there is a 9 minute music piece too on him named 'why so serious'. Painted the joker for the friend! Combination of acrylic and oil, for a 3D effect.
